Also known as Caltrop, Double gee, and Bindi herb, Tribulus terrestris is a flowering, herbaceous, mat-forming plant indigenous to temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Its thorny seed pods give cause for numerous other common names, such as Puncture Vine, Devil’s Thorn, Goat’s Head, and Bull’s Head, among others. In Australia, the plant is considered a nuisance weed, both because it is prolific to the point of invasiveness and also because it is toxic to grazing livestock by means of nitrate poisoning and increased photosensitivity.
