Description
Botanical name: Piscidia piscipula
Origin: Jamaica
Jamaican Dogwood, or Piscidia piscipula, is a flowering tree native to Florida, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Initially, the roots, bark, and leaves of Jamaican dogwood were used for fishing, helping tribal hunters tranquilize fish, making it easier to hunt them. Over time the same compounds that relaxed the fish were found to aid in managing various physical and psychological concerns in humans. Teas, tinctures, or small bark pieces have been used in wellness formulas to help calm and relax.
The bark is the commonly used portion of the plant and can be decocted as tea, added to herbal formulations, or used in tincturing.
